September 6th - VISIONS OF YOUTHSeptember 6Read Isa. 6:1-8 VISIONS OF YOUTH Whereupon, O king Agrippa, I was not disobedient unto the heavenly visit. -Acts 26:19 Before his judge Paul explains his Christian career as obedience to the call from the highest in his young manhood out on the Damascus road. He describes it is a “heavenly vision,” and he did not overstate his experience. It is for every young person. The prophet Joel proclaimed such promise of God: “Your young men shall see visions.” Isaiah’s vision of the Lord one day in church is but another illustration of how the static always becomes dynamic before the unveiled Throne. All life is conditioned by vision. Sight is a gift, but seeing is the finest art in the world. Life depends on how we see things, for the measure of a person is the measure of his or her vision. It is the difference between the stonemason and the sculptor, the carpenter and the architect, the housepainter and the artist. It leads the race ever onward. Life is constructed along lines of vision. The vision of the mind is knowledge. The vision of the conscience is duty. The vision of the heart is love. The vision of the soul is faith. These are the four great cornerstones of character and consecration and incomparable career. And life is consecrated only in obedience to the highest vision. Paul’s explanation of his life is the secret of every great life-to find God’s will and to do it. OUR FATHER, we thank Thee for the vision of youth, even the heavenly vision. Help us so obediently to follow in the footsteps of Him, the Light of the World, that someday we shall be with Him on those peaks on which no shadow falls. In His name. Amen. W. F.
